Mary Beth is a passionate Certified Child Life Specialist devoted to helping children and families with the psychosocial needs of hospitalization. While working at Baystate Medical Center, Mary Beth was able to provide and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities to provide emotional expression as well as preparation for medical procedures. She also trained and supervised Child Life interns and volunteers. During her time at the hospital, Mary Beth was the coordinator of the school re-entry program and authored a sibling support book titled A Book For Me. Mary Beth is currently the Child Life Specialist at the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Medical Center.
Prior to having premature triplets, Mary Beth had worked in the childcare setting as the director and teacher. When her children were school age, Mary Beth transitioned to the education system where, for the past fourteen years, she has spent time as a substitute teacher. Mary Beth found that there was an important need for not only a school re-entry program, but consistent support for the school community as it pertains to children and families facing chronic illnesses, hospitalizations, surgeries, and bereavement. By providing supportive guidance and resources through their healthcare challenges, Mary Beth hopes to empower children and families through their journey to healing.
